the hit television series SET IN SICILY

what is 'the white lotus'?

‘The White Lotus’ is a recent American comedy drama anthology television series that has everybody talking. With its intense character drama and amazing sets, it’s easy to see why this show is popular. Season one is set in Hawaii, the currently airing season three is set in Thailand, and our personal favourite: season two set in Sicily. The show represents the wonderful country in a new and enchanting light - but where are the stunning filming locations?

Palermo

Palermo

Villa Tasca featured in The White Lotus is located on the road from Palermo to Monreale, in a 20 acre park full of citrus orchards and majestic century-old trees. Originally built in the 16th century, visitors can tour the garden and villa: https://parco.villatasca.com/listino-prezzi

Is Palermo worth visiting?

Alluring capital city of the island and the biggest historical centre in Europe, Palermo is an absolute must-see destination in the north west of Sicily. Culture and amazing food are the main attraction, as well as museums, Churches, Royal Palace and Opera Theatre. Local markets, appealing restaurants and delicious street food gives a lively buzz and atmosphere that Palermo is widely known for. Many people are attracted to the city for its Mediterranean climate, famous gastronomy and restaurants, the churches and ancient buildings and even the nightlife and music. There is something unique for everyone who visits this outstanding city.

Where to stay in Palermo?

Relax at the inviting four-star Plaza Opera situated in the heart of Palermo. Being near the centre of culture, tourism and shopping, exploration is made easy by staying at this hotel. Comfortable and contemporary guest rooms and suites are filled with modern furnishings and furniture created by local designers exclusively for this hotel. A buffet breakfast with Italian delicacies on an alluring penthouse roof garden is an excellent way to start your day.

Cefalù

Cefalù

The hotel beach that features at the beginning and end of season two was filmed here and on the screen you can appreciate the majestic Cathedral with the Rocca di Cefalù behind.

Is Cefalù a historic town?

The Medieval town centre dates back to 1861 when it officially became a part of the Kingdom of Italy – though its history stretches back to the Greeks and their indigenous settlement. However this historic town also boasts good restaurants, local shops but most of all its sandy beach overlooking the town. It’s one of the most popular resorts close to Palermo with options such as sightseeing, relaxing on the beach or hiking. Cefalù offers a rare combination of attractions: one of Sicily’s finest beaches next to one its greatest Arab-Norman architectural masterpieces, ensuring there is something for everyone in this small but interesting town.

Where to stay in Cefalù?

Enjoy charming views over Cefalù by staying at Alberi del Paradiso. This four-star hotel is ideally situated close to the historic town with the beach just a short walk or shuttle ride away. Arranged on four floors accessed by a lift, the bright and modernised guest rooms and suites are the best way to unwind after a day exploring Cefalù and beyond. Relax and unwind at the end of your day with an outdoor heated swimming pool with hydromassage chairs and a sun lounging area surrounded by Mediterranean gardens.

Taormina

Taormina

Taormina is a truly enchanting part of Sicily featured in The White Lotus Season 2. As well as yacht trip on the Ionian sea, the characters take a day trip to the city where they discover that the town is rich in atmosphere, history and culture. Exterior scenes were filmed at the San Domenico Palace where visitors can book for drinks and dinner at the hotel. Some scenes were set on the beach by Isola Bella in Taormina Mare and also featured the majestic Greek amphitheatre with Mount Etna beyond.

Why is Taormina famous?

With the imposing profile of Mount Etna dominating the horizon, stunning natural beauty perched high on the clifftop, the winding narrow streets of the commune and the well-preserved ancient Roman and Greek theatre make Taormina a must-visit destination. The town also boasts some of the most exclusive hotels in the whole of Italy attracting artists, present day and notable historic celebrities which makes it the perfect place for a romantic and luxury getaway, as well as a perfect location for films and documentaries. There are plenty local delicacies and festivals to experience, while the Taormina Mare coastline is enveloped by panoramic views, several beaches and little coves including the picturesque Isola Bella.

Where to stay in Taormina?

Stay at the four-star Hotel Monte Tauro for uninterrupted sea views spanning the Bay of Naxos to Mount Etna. Built in the 1970’s, this hotel has had dramatic refurbishments to create a stylish and modern interior. Each room is fully equipped with amenities such as satellite TV, air conditioning and a minibar. Unwind after a day exploring with drinks served throughout the evening by the pool. With astonishing sea views and strategic location, this hotel is an ideal base for exploring and enjoying the town of Taormina, the beaches and local area.

Noto

Noto

The Baroque town of Noto was chosen as the setting for some of the most beautiful outdoor sequences of The White Lotus TV series 2. The town was featured in outdoor sequences and as a day-trip destination for the characters Harper and Daphne, along with Piazza Immacolata and the magnificent Cathedral that were also featured.

What is Special about Noto Sicily?

Located in the Province of Syracuse, this Baroque style town is rich in history and architecture. In 2002, the town and its church were declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Today, Noto invites explorers to wander through the winding streets, discover the Cathedrals and Churches, and enjoy the many Piazzas covered in cafes, bars and restaurants. Along Corso Vittorio Emanuele are many of Noto’s most notable buildings, including Palazzo Ducrezio and the Jesuit Church and College. If visiting in May, find the yearly Infiorata Festival, celebrating all things spring and summer with a colourful fiesta.

Where to Stay in Noto?

Gagliardi Boutique Hotel enjoys a unique position in the heart of Noto. This charming hotel is covered in character, with it being a converted Palazzo from the 19th century. The rooms and suites feature refined décor and furnishings and the hotel also features a small garden, art gallery and panoramic terrace with outstanding views. With just 10 rooms, this hotel maintains the intimate atmosphere of a Sicilian family house and would be excellent for those looking for an authentic Sicilian experience.
